Join us for our weekly community "Voge Fem" class. This week, the class is free, thanks to our collaboration with Utrecht Queer Culture Festival. Voguing is a dance style that has emerged from the ballroom culture in Harlem, New York from the 1960s throughout the 1980s. Ballroom culture was originally created by the Black and Latino LGBTQ-community to create a safer space in which they could freely express themselves and feel a sense of belonging. Vogue Fem is the newest style of Voguing that has been created by the "Fem Queens" (trans women) in ballroom. Trans women of color created Vogue Fem, and now you see it all over in pop culture. Vogue Fem emphasizes fluidity, high-energy movements, and exaggerated femininity, with key elements like catwalks, duckwalks, spins, hands, floorwork, and dramatic dips. Voguing can be done by people from all genders! This dance class is extra beginners-friendly: first-timers are more than welcome, and you don't need to have any dance background or experience. Feel free to wear something light and comfortable that you can move around in.
