Whacking is a dance style that originated in the 1970s in the underground - black en Latino - gay clubs of Los Angeles. Society's pressures on this community created a place in the clubs for them to escape from everday discrimination. Here they felt a limitless sense of freedom. On the disco music of that time you see the dancers move very expressively. Whacking is characterized by many arm movements, poses, groovy moves, theatricality and the expression of your emotions. These emotions are in connection with the music and yourself, as well as with the people around you. Whacking is a social dance. In celebration of the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival, the Social Dance Club will host the 'Whacking Experience' on the 9th of October.
